Where do we ride? Mostly around a quiet little retirement village laid on top of a beautiful farming valley between the foot of the Olympic Mountains and the shores of the Salish Sea. There is a river, named after the crab, that divides the territory. Several rivers actually, once you ascend in to the hills a bit. There are good sides and less good sides to that. Bridges are necessary, and their scarcity keeps some areas pretty lightly traveled. If you want to get from one spot to another on the other side however, you need to come to one of a few common points in order to get there.IMG_3150

The mountains are steep and green. You could say sometimes that you can’t see the forest for all the trees. Bummer. But when you do get to somewhere that those pesky trees have been carted away to build things with, or mother nature provides a glimpse, the views can open up for spectacular vistas.

The valley is mostly quite flat. There are a few quaint farm views left between the sprawling crop of houses. By bike, it doesn’t take much to get across the valley from saltwater to green hills and the beloved gravel.IMG_3337
